Business Diagnostic and Growth Readiness Assessment

You cannot coach a business you have not diagnosed.

Before we work on how you lead, we find out what is actually happening in your company. Two hundred thirty four questions across nineteen areas, read against your own numbers, returned to you as a written diagnosis and a plan. Then an hour together to decide what you do first.

Report delivered in 10 business days. Fee credited toward any coaching program that follows.

What you get

Two deliverables. Nothing vague in either one.

Most coaching starts with a conversation about where you want to go. This starts with an honest account of where you are. It is the difference between advice and diagnosis.

Deliverable one

The full written report

Typically 20 to 30 pages, delivered as a PDF
  • Current state analysis. What your business actually looks like right now, in writing, backed by your own numbers.
  • Evidence based SWOT. Every strength and weakness traced to a specific answer or figure you gave, not to opinion.
  • Financial diagnosis. Margin trend, cash conversion, debt service coverage, breakeven against actual.
  • Concentration and risk map. Which customers, people, vendors, and systems you cannot afford to lose.
  • Prioritized action plan. A 90 day list and a 12 month list, each item with an owner and a first step.
  • The gap page. Where what you believe about your business and what the data shows do not line up. This is usually the page owners reread.
Deliverable two

One hour with James

Live working session, not a sales call
  • Walkthrough of the findings by the person who did the analysis. No handoff to an associate.
  • Your questions answered directly, including the ones you did not want to put in writing.
  • Pressure testing. Bring your objections. If a recommendation does not survive your pushback, it should not be in the plan.
  • Sequencing. We decide together what you do first, what waits, and what you stop doing entirely.
  • Recording and notes so you can share the session with a partner or your leadership team.
  • An honest read on coaching. If the problem is process rather than leadership, you will hear that.
What we examine

Nineteen areas. Two hundred thirty four questions.

The same instrument regardless of your industry. It is built to find the things owners stop noticing, and the things nobody on the team is willing to raise.

How it runs

Four steps over about three weeks.

STEP 01

Fit call

Fifteen minutes by phone. We confirm the diagnostic is right for where you are, and which tier fits. No charge, no pitch deck.

STEP 02

You complete it

A fillable document in seven parts, so you can work through it in sittings. Most owners take two weeks and bring in their bookkeeper for the finance section.

STEP 03

We analyze and write

Your answers are read against your financial statements and supporting documents. Ten business days from the day we have everything.

STEP 04

The working hour

You get the report two days before we meet, so you arrive with questions. The hour goes to decisions, not to reading.

Pricing

Priced by the size of the business, not by the hour.

A larger company takes longer to diagnose. That is the only thing separating these tiers. Every tier includes the full questionnaire, the complete written report, and the hour.

Before you ask

The questions owners actually ask.

Is this coaching or consulting?

Neither, yet. It is the diagnosis that tells you which one you need. Some owners finish the report and discover their problem is a broken process, which is consulting work. Others discover it is how decisions get made and who is allowed to make them, which is coaching. You should not be sold either until someone has looked.

Why would I pay for a report when my accountant already tells me how we are doing?

Your accountant tells you what happened to the money. This tells you why, and what to do about it. The financial section is one of nineteen. The other eighteen cover the things that produce the numbers: customer concentration, lost business, pricing discipline, owner dependency, bottlenecks, systems, and bench strength.

How much of my time does this take?

Realistically four to six hours to complete the questionnaire, spread over two weeks, plus the working session. The document is built in seven parts so you never have to do it in one sitting. The finance part is best handed to whoever keeps your books.

What if the report tells me things I already know?

Some of it will, and that is useful in itself, because it confirms your instincts and puts them in writing where your team can see them. What owners rarely predict is the ranking. Knowing your ten problems is different from knowing which two are actually costing you money right now.

Do I have to share my financials?

The analysis is meaningfully weaker without them, and you will be told so. Everything you provide is covered by a mutual confidentiality agreement signed before the questionnaire is issued. If you would rather start without them, we can, and the report will flag exactly what could not be assessed.

Is this just a lead in to selling me a coaching program?

The deliverable is complete on its own and plenty of clients stop there. If you do want ongoing help, the fee you paid comes off the first invoice, which means the assessment costs you nothing at that point. There is no version of this where you get a partial report and a proposal.

Which tier am I?

Revenue is the starting point, but complexity matters more. Two locations, two entities, or a leadership team of five will move you up a tier regardless of revenue. That is what the fit call is for, and you will be told if the smaller tier is enough.

Next step

Fifteen minutes to find out if this is the right instrument for your business.

No preparation needed. Bring one problem you have not been able to solve, and you will get an honest answer on whether the diagnostic would find the cause, or whether you need something else.
